Brittany Lo, Founder Of Beia Beauty
How did Beautini and Beia get started?
Beautini I started 6 years ago after graduating from Babson College. I wrote in my 2nd grade journal that I would one day start a beauty company and always thought that was the plan. But entering my senior year, I was given a full time offer by my dream company - a beauty conglomerate - and it made me really think about what path I wanted to take.
I eventually chose to pursue the concept for Beautini, but I knew one day my next step would be in products. I wanted to first understand our consumer and have an intimate beauty experience that empowers women to not only look their best, but to also feel their best too. Beautini allowed me to speak with thousands of women about their beauty concerns and where the white space is in the the beauty industry.
A year ago, when all events and weddings were put on hold during the pandemic, it gave me time and the opportunity to focus on that next step, which ultimately became Beia! I have used the insights I have gained from our Beautini customer base and incorporated it as we launched Beia.
What makes your businesses unique?
The experience & brand positioning. I don’t think you need to recreate the wheel to have an incredible business. I do think that what separates the good from the great, though, is how the brand positions itself and resonated with its customers and the unique experience it offers to its clients and customers.
For Beia, we are focused on the bigger mission of empowering women to indulge - guilt free.
Why is work so important to you?
Maybe it’s because most days my job doesn’t feel like work at all?! I am someone who has a hard time doing things that I am not passionate about. So when I do find a something such as my businesses that I am passionate about, I take it very seriously. The mission for Beia & Beautini is much bigger than me so making sure my clients and customers are happy means the world to me!
What moment in your career are you most proud of?
This is a hard question! I would say that probably it happened last year when my entire business went from booming like it never has before to loosing all of it’s bookings due to COVID-19 in a matter of days. It took me 6 years to build something that took no more than a week to tear it apart.
However despite the adversity we were able to make it through stronger than ever, I launched my new company Beia and became a full owner of both businesses. It was a time where my family and loved ones really were there for me, and they believed in me more than I believed in myself at times, and that was incredible!
What have you learned through your experience as an entrepreneur that can be used by aspiring business individuals?
Nothing is going to be perfect and there will be always more to learn. But just doing it versus waiting for everything is perfect will get you moving forward a lot more quickly. There’s only so much you can anticipate before you launch and see what your customers actually want or where the real holes may lie. Do the best you can, and always give your all, but know to put your energy towards the things that matter because there is not enough time in the day to do everything absolutely perfect, and that’s okay! □
