“I began my journey by studying Architecture at my university and finding that I liked to express my designs through hand drawing rather than using AutoCAD and other software programs. I always found that illustration and hand drawing supported my presentations and engaged the viewer for longer, which was exciting! At the beginning of 2020, I was moving to New York to continue my journey as an architect, but that’s when the pandemic hit. I was left unemployed and living with my parents in Scotland aged 25. This is when I decided to start my art business via my website and Instagram, sharing my paintings and drawings with everyone online. Eventually, it led me to earn a living through my art. I wanted to move to London to pursue my career further. I became an architectural illustrator at Foster + Partners and then onto a bid manager at Heatherwick Studio.”

Few things can wear us down like pain. Pain gets our attention in ways other things can’t - the blaring alarm that deep down, something is not right. Pain is a warning system alerting us to the presence of inflammation, of woundedness, of a system out whack, in need of recalibration. It’s easy to associate chronic pain with older people, but we often overlook the many young men and women, even children, who face this struggle daily.

After a few months of seeing the business grow, I left my job to take clients full time and began to look for our first retail space.

How did Beautini and Beia get started? Beautini I started 6 years ago after graduating from Babson College. I started professionally acting when I was seven years old. I was acting before that, though, before I even knew the definition of acting. I've always had such a fascination with films. When I was little, I would watch them and completely escape into the stories that they would tell—so much so that after the movie ended, I would walk around in life as one of the characters of that movie. I literally couldn't break that habit.
From the many challenges I have faced in life, I have learned that challenges are made up of two parts: the actual circumstance, and the outlook you choose to embody towards that circumstance. The circumstance is 10% of the equation, and the attitude is the other 90%. I know from this that my attitude and resilience are keys to success.

Every year, I go through a phase in which the items in my closet quite literally make me gag. It’s a theatrical reaction, sure, but it doesn’t fall far from how I feel. When I find myself in this state, I will typically allow myself to feel repulsed by my own stylistic choices for a few weeks before my dissatisfaction becomes intolerable.
I created Pai as a solution to my own skin issues. I suddenly developed a skin condition, chronic urticaria, in my mid-20s. It became onset in one night, and I developed hives over about 80% of my body. It is an idiopathic condition, meaning “no known cause,” which makes it very hard to effectively manage; additionally, advice from the medical community was nonexistent. After years of popping pills that masked rather than treated the problem, I took matters into my own hands and started to identify my triggers. This included a deep dive not just into diet and lifestyle factors, but ingredients in my skincare as well.
After phases of burnout, I feel a burst of motivation to nourish myself and rebuild my daily routine. I have become well acquainted with this marvelous sensation throughout my travels, as many places once unfamiliar to me have become second homes. Returning to them feels like walking into the arms of an old friend as I become reacquainted with a place I know and love once more. It’s a curious phenomenon: the more I travel, the more home becomes a steadiness within me rather than a place outside of me.
