Get Curious With AirBnb Experiences
By: Michelle Richards
You probably know that Airbnb homes are available to rent when visiting a new town or city, but what you may not know is that, through Airbnb, you can also book unique experiences hosted by locals experts. April is the time to try one of these bucket list-worthy adventures.
High-Vibe Personal Growth Adventure - Encinitas, California
This private, one-to-one coaching/mentoring experience in the peaceful town of Encinitas, California, promotes healing and personal growth through high-vibration activities with a certified life coach.
The experience begins with a meet-and-greet and a beverage (coffee/tea, kombucha, or a fresh juice) at the host’s home. You will also receive a journal, a discussion about what to expect from the experience as well as your intentions going into the coaching process. Next is a short, guided meditation, followed by reflection time and self-guided coaching on the beach, located a few short blocks from the host’s home. The next segment of the experience is meditation in the Self-Realization Fellowship Gardens, ending with a final conversation, including steps to continue to address what you're working on, stepping into the best version of yourself, and achieve success in all areas of life!
Personal sessions are available; up to two people can book at a time. The program is flexible to different comfort levels; check out this website for further information about the coach and his expertise.
2. Kayak in La Jolla (Sea Caves and Marine Reserve) - La Jolla, California
This exciting kayak excursion - run by the apparel and adventure business Everyday California - does not require any prior experience. The company is permitted by the City of San Diego and San Diego's Lifeguard Services to operate a kayak concession in La Jolla, which kicks off with a paddle tutorial on the beach. If surf exists, guides will help push your kayak through any breakers.
La Jolla Bay is a marine-protected area, home to a thriving ecosystem of sea life. It has a natural boat launch, which allows safe ocean entry year-round. It is famous for its Sea Caves and Marine Reserve.
As you paddle, keep an eye out for seals, sea lions, sea turtles, pelicans, dolphins, and gray whales in the fall and winter.
If conditions are safe, your kayak will be guided into Emerald Cave. If not, the host will help you paddle out & explore La Jolla's World Famous Marine Reserve.
3. Meditative Mountain Hike - Seattle, Washington
Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and take in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with Michelle, who hosts silent three-mile, low elevation gain hikes and guided meditation. You will leave with a clear mind and a game plan to tackle the day-to-day craziness of your life.
Transportation to the Wildside Trail from downtown Seattle is included. Coffee and camera are welcome; just be sure to wear comfortable clothing/shoes. Bring an open heart and mind to this special experience.
4. Surfing for Empowerment - Encinitas, California
“There is no better experience than surfing to provide you this ultimate life-changing experience” - Jason Weber
This surfing adventure starts with a conversation with the host, Jason, who will listen to your story and intentions for the session before getting your equipment and beginning to surf. You will then venture down on the sand, where you will be guided through meditation, visualization, and breathwork.
After a review of techniques and safety, you will proceed into the ocean to learn how to paddle and pop up on the board. In the ocean, Jason will guide you using his unique teaching techniques and will close the session with meditation. In terms of safety, Jason is licensed, bonded, and permitted in Encinitas. Check out his websites for more information.
5. Sailing Adventure from Bainbridge Island - Bainbridge Island, Washington
This 34-foot sailboat, “The Rumbera,” departs from Bainbridge Island's Waterfront Park. Scott - the managing owner of Sail Rumbera LLC and a licensed charter captain - will drive the sailboat through the beautiful Eagle Harbor before raising sails. You will not want to miss the scenery. To the East, you will see the iconic skyline of Seattle, Mount Rainier to the South, the Olympic Mountains to the West, and Mount Baker to the North.
On this adventure, you will explore beautiful harbors, featuring stunning waterfront homes, and you may even spot a whale or seal. You will learn about Bainbridge Island's unique history, from having the largest wooden-vessel shipyard in the West to the earthquake that lifted a whole section of the island 23 feet higher, which can still be seen today.
You can decide whether you want a “private” tour (for up to six people) or if you want to share a “social” charter with others (also up to six people). No matter what you choose, you will not regret this sailboat adventure. □
