Founder Of Adina’s Jewels, Adina Mizrahi
Why were you inspired to create Adina's Jewels, and how did you start it?
I was a nineteen year old college student who struggled to find a way to help my family, as we faced financial challenges. My immigrant parents- my mom is Israeli and my dad is Syrian - moved to America in order to provide us a better education and life opportunities. My brother Mayer and I watched as our parents worked diligently to give us the best life they could, a work ethic that inspired us to build futures that could pave the way for our future generations. That same summer, I decided to start my own brand where I would create jewelry out of leather and pearls. At first, friends & family from the local community showed up to buy my jewelry. Later, I started to sell my jewelry in the back of a local swim store. As my clientele continued to grow in the neighborhood, Mayer, who was seventeen at the time, invested everything he had into launching our online store in 2016. His efforts have led to Adina’s Jewels success as one of the leading online jewelry stores in the country today.
What moment in your career are you most proud of?
The moment in my career that I am most proud of is when Adina's Jewels became successful enough to move out of the basement of my parents' home and into an office/warehouse space in Brooklyn. One year later, we had already outgrown the space and signed a lease for the floor above us as well.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice would be, no matter how old you are or what odds you face, if you pursue your passions to the best of your ability, you’ll be surprised by just how far it will take you.
What inspires your jewelry designs?
I have always been a keen observer of high fashion and the seasonal runway trends. Being born and raised in New York City, I have always drawn inspiration from the people around me and their styles.
When you were younger, did you imagine yourself in the position you are in today? If not, what did you think that you would be doing?
I did not imagine myself here (although I absolutely aspired to be where I am today). I thought that this would be my "side hustle" to earn money for my college tuition while I studied psychology. □
