Honest Answers From A Professional Ballerina, Liza Avsajanishvili
Who or what inspires you?
Honestly, I don't have one specific answer as to where my motivation comes from. All of the good people and peace in the world inspire me. My love for being a ballerina inspires me as well! I view each new day as a motivation, and I try not to waste time. I have many dreams I would love to achieve, and I want to be a positive force in the world and do good for others. I believe life itself is an inspiration!
What is your greatest strength as a dancer?
It is difficult to talk about yourself and pinpoint your strengths or weaknesses. I would probably single out my character; I consider myself a fighter. I am a driven person. This comes with many self-criticisms, which drive me to perfect specific details in my career and life. I push myself to be the best I can be, and I believe hard work and love can go a long way.
What do you like to do when you are not dancing?
Most of my day is occupied by dancing, rehearsals, or performances, so I have very little free time. I try to relax and get as much sleep as possible when I can. I loved self-care activities as a child and enjoyed going to the beauty salon or spending time at the spa. My perfect day off would include watching a good movie and eating cake!
Tell us about the biggest challenge you've faced in your career.
When I was 14, I had my first challenge; I entered Vaganova Academy and began living away from my family. I was just a child living alone in a different country with little knowledge of the native language. After this experience, the subsequent challenges I faced became more of a career rule for me and were not as difficult.
How do you handle high-stress situations?
I am close with my family, and they help me a lot when I have stressful days or am feeling down. They know how to ease my stress and cheer me up. I am so thankful to have them in my life. There are times when stress begins to build up, and it is difficult to release this negative energy. It always helps me to communicate these emotions, and sharing experiences or perspectives is essential. □
