How did your business start and what do you want it to look like in the future?

My business started when I was 20 years old working as a receptionist at a spa and was bored just working 20 hours a week doing the same thing over and over again. What I decided was to approach an Acai Bowl small business across the street and ask if they needed a Social Media Manager. It turns out, THEY DID! After that, I was the local Social Media Manager while going to school and still working at a front desk. Fast forward to 2021, I finally decided to quit my 9-5 agency job I had and start my own businesses FULL time and branch out to businesses virtually, and Managed By Skye was born. After getting my first client 2 weeks after I quit my job, I was determined to get fully booked in a month, which I did! I started growing my TikTok and teaching others how to become a Social Media Manager and now I do half coaching and half Social Media Management for businesses. I plan to continue to do this, and help others leave their jobs they aren't happy with and build the life they always wanted and help businesses grow through a world of Social Media.

Who/what inspires you?

My family inspires me! I have an extremely supportive family that has always lived by the motto "you can do anything you set your mind to" which I have now taken into every day of my life. When I feel tired or disappointed because I can't figure something out, I know I can count on them to get me right back up. They are each strong individuals so watching them succeed inspires me to be the best I possibly can be.

What has been the best moment in your career thus far?

Having a viral TikTok 2 weeks after starting it! Tiktok is by far my favorite platform and getting the satisfaction of seeing the views continue to go UP, made me so happy.

What are some misconceptions people have about social media management?

This misconception that people have is that "all" a social media manager does is schedule posts with captions, but it is much more than that! There is a lot of strategy, research, testing, and knowledge that goes into it. A social media account with no strategy is set up for failure, therefore social media managers have a strategy to set a business and account for success.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does. □
