How did you get started on your vegan journey?

I adopted a vegetarian diet at eleven years old. The vegan diet wasn’t really known at the time; I didn’t even know another vegetarian. In high school, I used to say that I would “never be a crazy vegan,” but, one day - after some critical thinking about animal exploitation - I watched some PETA videos about the dairy and egg industries. I never looked back.

What are some favorite recipes at the moment?

As a busy working mother, I am all about simplicity. One of my go-to snacks that feels ultra indulgent (while still being packed with nutrients) is sliced bananas drizzled with date syrup, almond (or any nut) butter, cinnamon, crushed pistachios, hemp seeds, and dark chocolate chips. Try it!

What inspired you to start “Sugar Taco”?

Feeding people is my love language. I have always gathered my friends to my home - even when living in my tiny Hollywood apartment - for elaborate meals. I also think that exposing people to great vegan food is key to inspiring them to make changes. Ultimately, the reason “Sugar Taco” exists is for the animals.

What is your favorite part of your workspace; how do you make it your "own"?

I work from home; I don’t really confine my work to one space. I have to be creative with getting work done while chasing two toddlers and a baby around, but my favorite spot to work is on my outdoor couch while the kids take a nap.

What is your favorite thing to come home to after a long day of work?

As I said, I work from home, but my favorite way to wind down and switch out of “work mode” is by taking a long hot bath and reading a book.

If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive, who would it be?

Well, I definitely wouldn’t want to have dinner with a dead person ;)

In all seriousness, I’d love to have dinner with Joaquin Phoenix. As both an artist and an activist, I find him incredibly inspiring! □
