Interior designERS. Real estate AGENTS. Home goods.
A Home. A place. a feeling.
Is it me, or did the aesthetic queens and kings of social media swap out their Ikea couches for fancy sofas while most of us had our heads in the oven checking on the banana bread? The pandemic changed a lot of things about daily life, and we all coped with our boredom differently.
There’s simply no place like home. What if the biggest component of finding, building, and making a home is not so much about the building itself, but with the people living within? Coming home says more about us and the person we became while abroad than it says about the place we call home.
I’m currently on a three-week road trip across the Northwestern states, stopping along the way to visit family and friends as I go. I’m the sort of person who enjoys traveling, but also appreciates having a home to return to after the long journey. There’s something special about having a space to kick off your shoes and put your feet up in comfort.

Tell us about yourself and your career as a designer. My path to design was quite unconventional. Prior to starting my design business, I was an elementary school teacher. After having our second child, I quit teaching and began helping my husband in starting his construction company.
What inspired you to start your particular journey? I have lived in Southern California for the last 20 years, which has had a big impact on my design style. I still incorporate my California roots into projects across the country.
What inspired you to become an artist and interior designer? Although I had always been creative as a child, I grew up at a time when "entrepreneur" wasn’t a word; it might as well have been called “starving artist." It wasn’t until later on in life that I reconnected with my creative side, realizing that I felt stuck and unhappy in corporate America.

Aly and I met as college roommates and both had dreams of entrepreneurship—she wanted to make something creative and I (a triplet) wanted to build something of my own, but we never thought we'd end up here. Who is your biggest inspiration? This question is surprisingly hard for me to answer. I have different people who inspire me for different reasons. My mother for her humor, my father for his wisdom, my partner for his empathy... When I think of who inspires me every day, especially in my creative space, I just see "her."
If I could share one piece of advice to someone who’s just starting out in business it would be to chase your purpose as opposed to chasing money. It’s so easy to see what seems to be making other people money and want to copy or join the bandwagon.
