July 2021 Covergirl: Realtor & TV Personality, Mary Fitzgerald
When the reality TV show Selling Sunset debuted on Netflix in 2019, viewers were immediately sucked into the drama of The Oppenheim Group, a luxury real estate brokerage founded by Jason and Brett Oppenheim. The show follows the real estate agents’ personal and professional lives while also giving viewers a glimpse of the most prized properties in the Los Angeles area. The group specializes in properties in highly-coveted locations, including Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, the Sunset Strip, Bel Air, and Malibu. They have office locations in West Hollywood and Newport Beach, and they received accolades from Vega Awards and Real Trends. The Oppenheim Group boasts over $1 billion in total sales and $300 million in current listings, and their clientele includes some of the richest people in Los Angeles, including celebrities like Alex Rodriguez, Orlando Bloom, and Dakota Johnson.
Mary Fitzgerald is one of the main stars and fan favorites in Selling Sunset. In the first three seasons, Fitzgerald works closely with Christine Quinn, Chrishell Stause, Heather Rae Young, Davina Potratz, the Oppenheim brothers, Romain Bonnet, and Maya Vader. When we asked her how she became involved with the show, she responded: “We were approached by several people to start a show and we are so lucky to have gotten an offer to be on Netflix. It is crazy that we are almost done filming five seasons, time has flown. We stay very busy, but we are like a family and I love getting to work with the best team.”
Fitzgerald attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and she began working with The Oppenheim Group in 2014. She is one of the most successful realtors at the brokerage, and before her time at The Oppenheim Group and the release of Selling Sunset, she worked in New York and London. In London, she worked for Nick and Christian Candy, also known as the Candy Brothers, and was famously involved with the One Hyde Park property. One Hyde Park was built by the Candy Brothers and Waterknights, Qatar’s former prime minister’s property development company. It was one of the most expensive apartment complexes in the world when it was completed in 2011, and earlier this year, one 16,000 square foot penthouse sold for $237 million.
Fitzgerald has been in real estate for over a decade, and we asked Fitzgerald why her work was so important to her. She responded: “Work is so important to me because I love getting to help my clients complete one of the biggest purchases of their life. I feel so lucky to get to walk alongside my clients on this journey and want them to have absolute satisfaction that they are making the best choice.” Her passion for real estate is obvious, and her career is an indication of her expertise. We asked what her career thus far has taught her and if she had any advice, and she said: “Hard work pays off! It takes time and determination to get to where I am now, but it is such a rewarding feeling once you see your hard work begin to show. Continue to have patience and perseverance as you accomplish various trials in your workforce.” Fitzgerald’s hard work certainly paid off. Her reputation as one of the best house matchmakers in the industry lands her celebrity clients. In April, Fitzgerald listed rapper French Montana’s house for $4.9 million. Montana’s Calabasas house was previously owned by Selena Gomez and has five bedrooms and bathrooms, a 12-car garage, and a full recording studio. In an interview with FUBAR RADIO, Fitzgerald commented that Montana will likely make an appearance in season four of Selling Sunset.
In addition to an illustrious career, she has a 22 year-old son Austin, who she had when she was 16. During an interview with Hello!, Fitzgerald discussed the impact of her teen pregnancy and experience as a single mother on her life: "It absolutely shaped my life. I had to fight from a young age to survive and succeed. I think it taught me to be more compassionate to others for sure." Her hard work ethic, honesty, and compassion are defining characteristics that make her successful. When we asked Fitzgerald about the characteristics she values in her peers, she said: “I value loyalty and honesty in those closest to me. In a world of Real Estate, you are constantly meeting different people and dealing with different personalities. It definitely makes for a fun-filled day to say the least.
In contrast to Fitzgerald’s relationship with her son, her relationship with her husband Romain Bonnet is public and an area of focus in Selling Sunset. Bonnet is a model and product manager at The Oppenheim Group, and they met when Bonnet’s modeling agency persuaded him to relocate from France to Los Angeles in 2017, where Mary became his agent. They secretly tied the knot in 2018, but they had a lavish ceremony at the end of the second season of Selling Sunset, which aired in 2019. The wedding was held at a $9.7 million property in West Hollywood that Mary sold on the day of her wedding. In January, Fitzgerald and Bonnet moved into a new house in Los Angeles, and their relationship remains strong. In an interview with Page Six, Fitzgerald said that her relationship with Bonnet improved once they started working and filming Selling Sunset together.
During an interview with The Radio Times in May, Fitzgerald said to expect season four in about six months. She told Women’s Health that most of the main cast will return, but Davina Potratz’s status is still unclear. Potratz left The Oppenheim Group in October 2020, and during an interview with PEOPLE, Potratz revealed that Brett Oppenheim also left The Oppenheim Group. Even though viewers do not have many details about the upcoming season, they are guaranteed one with drama and very expensive houses. Be sure to keep your eyes out for Mary Fitzgerald in the upcoming seasons!□
