Miami Beach Bum Founder, Ayssa Dipietro

What do you want your customers to feel when they put on your product (Bum + Body Cream)?

We want our community to feel comfortable and confident in their skin; to feel like their skin is in its healthiest, most hydrated state. Applying Bum + Body Cream should be a "feel-good" moment in our customer’s self-care ritual; a time in which they can metaphorically escape to Miami with us.

What is your daily ritual, and how does it involve the ocean?

My daily ritual includes a good night's sleep (7+ hours), a morning smoothie, the Miami Beach Bum collection, and ocean activities.

While I like to cleanse my face and hair sparingly throughout the week, I moisturize every morning and night. My secret to glowing skin is our bath collection, drinking lots of water throughout the day, and eating mostly plant-based recipes (from Healthy Girl Kitchen). I do my best to make sure that everything I put in and on my body supports my skin and gut microbiome and the natural functions that they perform, such as exfoliation, hydration, and immune system defense.

As a marine scientist and local beach bum, the ocean has also become an essential part of my daily ritual. To me, self-care means more than just taking care of my skin and hair, but getting into nature.

I live on the water and love to swim, paddle board, kite board, dive, or simply just watch the sunset off my dock. Every evening, I recharge by walking my dogs and spending time with my husband. Oh, and applying more Bum + Body Cream!

Where do you hope your company will go in the future?

It is our mission to restore your skin’s natural ecosystem and get people back to nature in their self-care rituals. We hope to continue growing our global community and have a positive impact on the relationship people have with their bodies.

As we continue to grow, we hope that our triple-bottom-line supply chain has an increasingly positive impact on people and the planet. We are 100% women-owned - which is rare to the beauty industry - and we plan to always stay that way. We are also excited to donate more of our profits to Operation Liberation— currently, we donate 1% of all sales to their animal welfare and humanitarian initiatives.

What made you start selling clothes?

In December 2020, we moved our offices to Sunset Harbour, Miami Beach. Sunset Harbour is Miami’s health and wellness retail neighborhood. It was essential for me to activate our street-front space with an IRL space for Miami Beach Bum. The brand is more than just a skincare collection, but it is a lifestyle. At our storefront, we sell limited-edition merchandise made from organic cotton in LA. Our clothing allows everyone to take a piece of Miami home with them.

Are you planning on releasing any new products soon?

Yes, we are currently upgrading our beach collection packaging to be made from 100% post-consumer plastic waste. This updated packaging will be released this summer in tandem with our most requested launch to date. Stay tuned for our suncare collection!

What is your favorite product that you sell? Which do you use the most?

I love all of our products, but if I had to choose one, it would be our signature Bum + Body Cream. It is the first skincare product that I formulated and holds the story behind our brand. Everyone (including me) experiences skin breakouts/irritations, either chronically or from time to time. Bum + Body Cream’s innovative formula targets your skin’s natural ecosystem and uses natural ingredients to bring the skin back into homeostasis. It’s the skincare industry’s OG oregano body cream and unlike anything that the market had seen before. Our Bum + Body Cream has set a standard for skin science that we now bring into all our formulas. □
