Beauty Writer & Founder Of Ellis Brooklyn, Bee Shapiro

Bee Shapiro is a writer that has covered beauty for the New York Times for more than a decade, and author of Skin Deep, Women on Skin Care, Makeup, and Looking Their Best . Needless to say, she knows a thing or two about all things body/skin care and makeup.  When Bee became pregnant with her first child, she became concerned with cleaning up her products, eliminating those with questionable ingredients. Shapiro realized that while there were options for makeup and skin care, she saw a gap when it came to clean and safe fragrances. She decided she was going to change this by creating her own brand of scents with clean ingredients and sustainable sourcing.

In June of 2015, Ellis Brooklyn was born; Named after her first daughter (Ellis), and Brooklyn, New York where she was living. Ellis Brooklyn fragrances are inspired by the things that Bee Shapiro loves the most in the world; Literature, non-fiction, articles, songwriting, poetry, and verse.

”I have always loved fragrance - it's a powerful, invisible language that can tell a story or conjure a keen memory in one concise sniff. Especially in our world of non-stop, intense visual imagery, fragrance reconnects us to our sense of smell but also to a present state of mind. Close your eyes, take a whiff and be in the moment. It is perhaps singular in that way in how it can convey well-being. It is this power of perfume—to convey health and beauty.” - Bee Shapiro

Ellis Brooklyn has grown significantly since 2015. Her line now includes twelve different fragrances, and she has added home fragrances, body products, candles, and gift sets. Shapiro’s fragrances are getting recognized in 2021, one of her perfumes, Bee, made a list of Best New Fragrances of 2021, put out by W Magazine.  Another one, MYTH, made Sephora’s list of Best-selling clean perfumes.
