Seeking Spring

By: Taylor Pircey

Magical…how she describes the world, her friends, the places she goes. Magical…how she looks in all those places.

Wonderful…how she experiences each moment life brings her way. Wonderful…how we feel in her presence, under her smile.

Vulnerable…how she feels in pictures when she shares her heart with you. Vulnerable…how we feel when she looks at us with knowing eyes so full of compassion & kindness.

Beautiful…the things she’s drawn to, surrounds herself with, is enchanted by. Beautiful…her soul, body, heart & mind.

Patience…what she’ll show you because she’s shown it to herself. Patience…what I want to have because I see it in her.

Wild…what she longs to be & finds in the Divine’s heart. Wild…how the Divine made her, how we want to be because of her heart.

Gentle…something life has not been. Gentle…who she is & what she shares with us, her friends.

The miracle of spring creeps up on us every year, surprising us with her gentle, gracious persuasion. Amidst the cold barrenness of winter, a longing for green, flowering goodness wells up in our chests; a craving for color & lush foliage, for warmer seasons & longer days full of sunlight & laughter. Every butterfly was once a caterpillar, pillaging gardens, inching along the underbelly of life... until, one day, he is put on pause, crystalized in deep slumber, and awaits the moment in which his deeper instincts awaken him as a butterfly.

The mystery of winter is much the same as that of the caterpillar, for, without him, we would have no acquaintance with spring’s wonders. If spring is the butterfly, winter is the chrysalis of transformation. Buds of hope begin forming under Winter’s hallowed gaze; a new song bubbles up beneath the surface of bark & stalk as fresh energy surges through dried veins & nature is revived.

The wonder of spring catches us off guard in the way of a bubbling laugh or a warm hug from a loved one. This is exactly how she feels to us – joyous, warm, loving, full of life & color – hope contained in brighter days. We all long for that fresh start, that hope for brighter days; a new beginning full of excitement & joy. The eternal optimist in each of us hopes that we can indeed transform into different people, perhaps even the people we’ve always longed to be. With the chirping of the birds, greening of the grass, freshness of the rainfall & blooming of flowers, we are reminded that even the harsh blandness of winter gives way to the eruption of spring. The ice must melt, warmth and joy must both be restored.

I love how the seasons can speak so deeply to our hearts. In this new year, how do you want to invite newness & transformation into your world? Are you looking for the blossoms of life to pop up along your path, and, are you ready to slow down & savor them? See, that’s part of the magic; you miss these blossoms if you aren’t paying attention to the details of your life. Spring invites us to pause & savor the beauty that erupts all around us. Spring is prodigal – it lavishes abundance on everything around it. You want color? Try 1,000 colors! Want flowers? How about a million varieties? Looking for new life? There are myriads of insects, animals, & birds freshly born or coming out of hibernation to a whole new world. Spring reminds us that life does not stay at rest forever. That there comes a time for abundance, creation & hope.

What does your hope for this spring look like? Is it your job? A love interest? A move to a new place? Richer relationships? New business ventures? A baby on the way? A wedding on the horizon? Starting a new year at a new school? Life is forever offering us new starts. What is yours?
