Female Business Coach, Stephanie Gorton

Your coaching platform is amazing! How did you get started? What did that journey look like?

I started my first-ever business as a ‘side hustle’ back in 2017, despite having absolutely NO idea what I was doing. My idea, running self-care workshops for women suffering with stress & anxiety, began by simply throwing a website together and selling tickets. Within nine months, I had quit my day job in order to take on the business full-time; within eighteen months, we had fourteen team members and ran 10-12 workshops per weekend. It grew so quickly, far beyond my wildest dreams. People began asking me how I expanded the business so quickly, leading me to start mentoring small businesses in addition to running my business.

When Covid hit, lockdowns forced my workshopping business to go on pause for a while… it was then that I began coaching full-time.

I knew that I loved to coach, but I was scared to take it full time because I felt like I didn’t have enough experience and that people would judge me. I had imposter syndrome bad, but I could also see that women were getting results from my coaching, causing me to step out of my fear and pursue it. I ended up selling my other business, and, three years later, I have the most incredible team and clients.

I had never thought that I’d be a business coach... but now I can’t imagine doing anything else!

What's the best piece of advice you received from a mentor and why?

Do one thing and do it well.

I think it's so easy in the ‘startup phase’ to want to try multiple revenue streams in order to bring in initial income. The problem with multiple offers, businesses, and niches is that you can’t give any of them 100%. I found that, as soon as I was all-in for my coaching business, it just boomed. I had one incredible offer, not five, one ideal client, and one simple sales process. I was able to simplify all of my systems, add more to my team, and grow our revenue because I was only marketing ONE thing.

This was a game changer for me and it is something that I teach all of my clients.

What does your morning routine look like?

I’m an early riser and my fiancé owns a gym, so we are always up early, at roughly 4:30am, to hit the gym for a workout, head home to grab our fur-baby for a walk, and drink our coffees.

Then I come home, read ten pages of a book, write in my gratitude journal, add to my to-do list, and get my day started!

It’s important to me to spend quality time outdoors with my loved ones each morning in order to get in the headspace for a kick-ass day.

What habits do you implement that provide extreme value to your life?

I have three non-negotiable values:

  1. Walking is a priority for me; it really clears my head. We live near the ocean, so it is a really beautiful way to start my day. I find it peaceful; a way to slow my thoughts down and remind myself of what is really important before diving into the workday.

  2. Reading ten pages is another game-changing habit for me. There is SO much wisdom available from books and I credit so much of my growth to what I’ve learnt from books. I really think that, as business owners, we have to prioritize our own learning and growth. I read a mix of philosophy, business books, autobiographies.

3. Time-blocking my calendar and having a set weekly structure ensures that I can get everything done while also getting enough “me time.” I make sure to prioritize thinking, learning & growing each week in addition to making time for my team, clients, and projects. There’s a beautiful saying, that structure creates freedom, and, because I set times to get things done during the day, I no longer at nights or during weekends. In fact, I only work three full days per week.

It's so awesome that you have a podcast! Name three people that you would love to interview and why.

My podcast is relatively new but I love podcasting so much. My dream guests would be Tim Ferris, Emma Issacs, and Amanda Frances for sure!
